Do I need expensive equipment or have to join a gym?
Not at all.  Realistically speaking, all BRE routines can be performed in the comfort of a well equipped home gym that has a squat rack, an adjustable bench with a good leg extension/leg curl attachment, an olympic set and some dumbbells.  If you have a dip station, even better and most squat racks bring a chin-up bar so no need to get an additional one.  Remember that it is the basic exercises and not fancy machines the ones that will get you the most growth.
